Relate two concepts together.

• Absent Mindedness is related to change blindeness because in both examples you have a lack of focus while you should be noticing something.
• As discussed in class, plasticity is very similar to long-term potentiationbecause for both it is causing your brain to change based on trying things over and over again and then having higher aptitudes towards some things and lower aptitudes towards others.
• Mental set and functional fixednessare related because both cause a person to forget or not know how to solve a problem with a different set of circumstances.
• Declarative memory is related to procedural memory because they both are stored into the long term memory and they both deal with storing information.
• Hindsight Bias and Self-consistency Biasare related because you're making a claim that you either felt a certain way (self-consistancy) or knew something (Hindsight) all along.
• Anchoring Bias is related to Representativeness Bias because you are paying attention to a single detail.
• Representativeness Bias is related to stereotyping because you are assuming that one thing has the exact same traits as another because they are categorized in the same group.

CHAPTER 8: Emotion and Motivation

• An internal Locus of control is related to intrinsic motivation because they both feature a desire or expectations that arise from within a person.
• Sexual scripts are related to the sexual response cycle because scripts are ways that people have learned that begin the response cycle.
• Post Traumatic Stress Disoder (PTSD) is related to Classical Conditioning because if aman came back from war always hearing gunshots and bombs, he would react to a loud noise as he did when he was in war. This could work for any situation!
• Emotional intelligence is related to an internal locus of control because they both involve being in control of your life/emotions.
• Hunger, sex, and sleep are all related because although they are drive we have a desire to them at times and they can be categorized as motives as well.
• Getting your license is related to a motive because you have to learn how to drive first to get the license and a motive is learned.
• Traumatic stressors are related to chronic stress because you are continuously worrying/stressing about your safety because of the traumatic event that occured and the stress is increasing over time.

CHAPTER 9: Psychological Development

CHAPTER 10: Personality

• The unconscious is related to the Rorschach Inkblot Technique because, according to Freudian psychoanalysis, what someone sees in the inkblots reveals their personality, emotions, desires, and motives hidden in the unconscious.
• reliability is related to validity because tests that have both are much more eficient the test that have one or the other or neither.
• Denial is related to ego because denial is a defence mechanism for the ego
• Mental Representation is related to Object Permanence because young children often lack the ability to picture images and objects and realize those object actually exist even though they can't be seen. However this is overcome when they can picture objects in their head and in turn, become aware of their existence in other places. So for example, playing peek-a-boo with a child illustrates the challenge they face before overcoming it. When you cover your eyes or there's they believe you or themselves has disappeared. As they get older and their brains mature, they will be able to understand that you are just covering your eyes, and that you are still there.

Chapter 11: Testing and intelligence

• Reliability is related validity because they are both measures of how accurate tests are.
• Mental Retardation is related to Giftedness because they both are the two extremes in the IQ range, upper and lower 2%. Mental Retardation is the lower 2% in the IQ range that score below 70 points on the IQ test, which stands for the Intelligence Quotient Test. Giftedness is the upper 2% in the IQ range that score at or above 130 points on the IQ test.
• Self-fulfilling prophecy is related to expectancy bias because with this you begin to behave based off what someone expects. So if someone constantly tells you that you're dumb and can't pass tests then you will begin to do poorly on tests because that's what is expected from you

Chapter 12: Psychological Disorders

• Learned Helpless is related to Depression because depressed people often feel rejected and lonely, making themselves feel unworthy so they feel as though there is nothing they can do to make others like them and are constantly down on themselves, deeply worsening the depression. This probably often happens to teens in high school who feel left out of social cliques or groups.
• Aversion therapy is related to positive punishment and operant conditioning because both involve the addition of an unpleasant stimulus to discourage a behavior. With aversion therapy, a person who has the bad habit of biting their nails would start wearing a bad tasting nail polish to break the habit. This is positive punishment because the behavior (nail biting) is stopped with the addition of an unpleasant stimulus (nail polish) and the punishment (bad taste) gradually discourages the person from doing the behavior.
• Behavoral changes are related to the Token economy because of the use of rewards or tokens to enforce certain behaviors that are viewed as positive, such as when children in classes recieve gold stars for good work.

Chapter 13: Treatment of Psychological Disorders

• Behavior therapy is related to operant conditioning because the basis of the therapy is to change the rewards, punishments, and cues in the environment and operant conditioning is all about reinforcing or stopping a behavior with rewards and punishments.
• Systemantic desensitization is related to Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because when PTSD victims want a therapy that will help relieve their fears and lead them to a better and more relaxing lifestyle they could choose systemantic desensitization because of the way it slowly exposes a patient to the fear they are experiencing.

Chapter 14: Social Psychology

• Kitty Genovese is related to diffusion of responsibility because despite the facts that 38 residents heard her cries for help not one picked up the phone and called the cops. They just kept to themselves and figured that someone else would make the call and help her so they didn’t bother.

• Scripts are related to social roles because when people have an understanding of what a certain role in society entails, they are more likely to act in that certain way, therefore they will make an effort to fit in to that role based on a person's knowledge and understanding of what is expected of that role. For example, many new police officers have a script of that role as one of authority so once they are in that position they assume that role and may be extremely strict.
